Being aware of the unity of nature and art, the entrepreneur and art collector Donald M. Hess felt induced to have James Turrell design a museum, The James Turrell Museum, at such a special place as Colomé. Born in Los Angeles in 1943, Turrell ranks among the most influential light and space artists of our time and has been analyzing the various manifestations of natural and artificial light in depth since the 1960’s. “I want to create an atmosphere that can be consciously plumbed with seeing like the wordless thought that comes from looking in a fire,” he states about his work. Light and space become a multidimensional experience for the viewer – a motif that Turrell continuously expresses in
his work. More>

The park hits at the portico / literature house and at its other end near the Jewish museum on the Main embankment. The around one-hour walk along the cultural institutions, former bunker layouts just as international hotels and bank towers will be the the stage for light scenaries from 11th to 16th April, 2010. How to participate in the Luminale? The ground rules in a nutshell:
• lighting manufacturers, planners and designers, artists and instituts of culture can register their Luminale projects with the project office Luminale.
• The closing date for registration is the 24th October 2009.
• The project must coincide with the Light+Building trade fair, which runs from the 11th to the 16th April 2010; it must be accessible to the public and make some contribution to lighting culture.
• No right to insist upon the inclusion of a project in the Luminale programme exists.
• Fill in this registration form. We take up contact with you and discuss it. Maybe we can help with the mediation of rooms or sponsorships. Therefor we need a conceptpaper of the idea.

The Nightseeing Map is representative of many noteworthy lighting design projects viewable by the public in New York City. Guidebooks to New York City dutifully recount the names of buildings, the details of structural engineering feats, and the intricacies of construction materials. While it may not be unusual for a tourist to point to a notable skyline tower and evoke the architect, how many can supply the name of the lighting designer responsible for bringing that building to light? This map showcases NYC’s illuminated buildings and the lighting designers responsible, from architectural masterpieces to the cutting edge, hip and trendy…at night! More>
